The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project is making headway in securing funding and a final investment decision could be made in 2019, a local media outlet reported on Tuesday.

TAPI Pipeline company’s Chief Executive Muhammetmyrat Amanov said that the expected costs of the project have been controlled to $7 billion from previously estimations of $10 billion, adding that the first stage would cost roughly $5 billion.

“We are planning to make a final investment decision (FID) in the first half of next year and then, stage by stage, finalise construction in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India,” he said.
