Oil spill wreaks havoc on Mubarak Village-Churna Island coastal belt

An oil spill from an underground pipeline has turned popular picnic location Mubarak Village known for its blue-green water into a black mess, posing a serious threat to marine life.

According to media reports, a stretch of the Sindh-Balochistan coastal belt was severely polluted after an oil spillage that wreaked havoc on the entire stretch of the coast from Mubarak Village to Churna Island.

Mubarak Village counsellor Sarfaraz Haroon urged the government to take notice of the matter and lamented that the incident was not the first to threaten the local economy.

“If the government does not take the matter seriously, sea life will be completely destroyed [in the area],” he told a local media outlet. He said that turtles, dolphins, whales, and other marine organisms were all on borrowed time unless remedial steps were taken.

Besides, the local fishermen demanded a strict disciplinary action against the owners of the company responsible for the spill.
