Dengue cases on the rise in Rawalpindi

— ‘Consistent rains in August have increased the threat of dengue spread in twin cities’

RAWALPINDI: Dengue fever cases have witnessed a sharp rise in the city, as the total number of patients reached 27 on Sunday, said Anti-dengue campaign in-charge Dr Zeeshan Ahmed.

Ahmed informed APP that around 1,240 dengue fever suspects have so far been brought to the allied hospitals of the city. Out of the total number, he said, 137 cases were probable while 27 patients with positive results were being provided the required treatment.

District Health Officer Health Authority Dr Zeeshan said that September was a crucial month for the spread of dengue, therefore all departments must remain fully alert to cope with any untoward situation.

He said that rains in the month of August have increased the threat of dengue spread in Rawalpindi, as it was already a sensitive area. “Our teams are visiting various areas and utilizing all resources to check the spread of the killing virus,” he added.

The DHO said fogging and surveillance has been lengthened in the areas from where patients were being reported while anti-dengue spray was also being carried out at bus terminals.

Dr Zeeshan advised the residents to use mosquito net or mosquito repellants like mats and coils in order to stay safe. He said dengue is under control in Rawalpindi and health department is on high alert to cope with any situation.

Dr Zeeshan called upon the residents to keep an eye on junkyards, schools and under-construction buildings, as these areas were safe havens for dengue larvae.
