President-elect Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday said that he will not seek immunity in a criminal case that had been registered against him in 2014.
Citing an English newspaper’s news report, Alvi said in a tweet, “I don’t intend to. The accused in this case are also my Prime Minister Imran Khan and Ministers Shafqat Mahmood, Asad Umar and Shah Mahmood Qureshi. How can I seek immunity? I will consult my lawyers.”

Earlier during the 2014 sit-in, the case was registered against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders for inciting violence during the protest.
On the other hand, the Constitution extends immunity from criminal proceedings to the president under Article 248.
The article states, “No criminal proceeding whatsoever shall be instituted or continued against the President or a Governor in any court during the term of office.”
