Independence Day celebratory firing in Karachi injures at least 39

KARACHI: At least 39 people were injured in Karachi on Tuesday by stray bullets from celebratory aerial firing on Pakistan’s 72nd Independence Day.

According to Karachi police, a 22-year-old man lost his life due to a fireworks related explosion as well.

15 of those injured by stray bullets were taken to Jinnah Hospital and another five to Civil Hospital in the city.

Injuries were reported in various parts of the city including Korangi, New Karachi and North Nazimabad.

The Sindh government in December, 2017 had imposed a ban on aerial firing.
