The Punjab caretaker government has stopped payments for the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) which is expected to cause further delays in the project, a local media outlet reported on Tuesday.
The upcoming government will now make decisions regarding the matter.
According to reports, no payments have been made for a number of months causing contractors to owe billions of rupees to their subcontractors and vendors while labourers have not been paid either.
Protesting labourers also demanded former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif to intervene on their behalf and clear the payments before Eidul Azha.
A contractor declined to provide any deadline for the completion of the project but said that over 80 per cent of the work has been completed.
