KARACHI: Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) on Friday staged a sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) against pre-planned ‘rigging’ in the general elections.
It may be noted that the GDA, in its meeting a couple of days ago, had announced protests in Sindh against alleged polls rigging.
Besides Karachi, protests were also done in various cities of Sindh including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas, Larkana and Khairpur.
A large number of workers and supporters of MMA and GDA reached the KPC and registered their protest against the rigging in polls. The protest was led by GDA leaders including former chief minister Sindh Ghous Ali Shah and Sardar Rahim and MMA leaders
Speaking on the occasion, Ghous Ali Shah said that the mandate of GDA was stolen by certain quarters through a pre-planned rigging in the general elections. He said that reason behind the GDA’s support to PTI Chief Imran Khan, was that Khan had termed former President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, two faces of the same base coin.
Shah said that Imran Khan should fulfil his claims made before the elections regarding the crackdown on corruption mafia and recovering looted money of the country that was shifted abroad by the corrupt people. He said bad-governance prevails in Sindh, and its institutions such as education, healthcare and agriculture have been ruined by previous rulers. He said there is no merit, nor justice in Sindh.
He said that GDA’s demand of re-elections related to the provincial level as it has contested polls in Sindh province only.
Other leaders demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), saying the CEC failed to conduct free and fair elections in Sindh province.
