Provinces to get more Rangers and FC personnel for polls security

ISLAMABAD: Interim Interior Minister Azam Khan on Friday said that the government had decided to provide additional Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel to provinces in a move to increase security in the run-up to the upcoming general elections.

On Friday, at least 74 people were killed in two deadly bomb attacks in Mastung in Balochistan and in Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunhwa province.

At least 70 people were killed and over 100 others were injured in a suicide bombing targetting Balochistan Awami Party (BPA) election candidate Nawabzada Siraj Raisani’s convoy during canvassing in Mastung, while four people were killed and 32 others were injured in a blast near the convoy of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Akram Khan Durrani in Bannu.

Moreover, during a Senate session earlier, the interior minister had said, “It is the duty of provincial governments to look after the micro factors in the security situation.”

Replying to the interior minister’s statement, Senator Raza Rabbani had said, “The election is at stake, Akram Khan Durrani has been attacked.”

Earlier on Tuesday, at least 22 people, including Awami National Party (ANP) leader Barrister Haroon Bilour, embraced martyrdom after a suicide bomber targeted a party rally in the Yakatoot area of Peshawar, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qazi Jamilur Rehman said.
