PESHAWAR: Breaking from their old policies regarding women disenfranchisement, two major parties of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) launched a campaign to encourage female voters ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has started coordinating religious clerics in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) at the district level.
The clerics are charged with the task to instil within party workers the importance of female voters.
JUI-F Spokesman Abdul Jalil Jan said, “Prayer leaders insist their followers in sermons that vote is a trust and guide women to stamp on the book symbol on the ballot paper.”
“The ulema are seeking a commitment from their followers to bring women to the polling stations for casting vote,” he added.
Moreover, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Spokesman said that the party’s women wing had started a door-to-door campaign in this regard.
