RAWALPINDI: An elderly man died during an “illegal” raid by police prompting a protest by residents of Adiala Road who demanded that a criminal case should be registered against the raiding party.

A police spokesman said, “The police raid was conducted without permission of senior officers, therefore, the raiding party is suspended and an inquiry ordered.”

Mohammad Taj, the 60-year-old elderly man, died due to a stampede which was sparked by the police raid.

Raja Mazhar Iqbal, Taj’s son, said that he had lodged a complaint with local police.

Body of the deceased was handed over to his family after a postmortem.
