Father, husband awarded jail term for forcibly marrying minor

MITHI: The father and husband of a 14-year-old bride were fined Rs5 thousand each and awarded a two-year imprisonment term for forcing the minor to marry and against her free will.

Another facilitator and the pundit who had performed the marriage ceremony were also awarded jail terms.

Judicial Magistrate Abdul Qadir Khoso presided over the case.

Bibi Meghwar, the 14-year-old, was forced to marry Pono Mal by her father, Paloo Mal, against her free will, according to the First Information Report (FIR).
