Punjab polio eradication campaign to begin from 12th

LAHORE: Sehat Muhafiz polio eradication teams of the Health Department Punjab will begin their house-to-house visits in order to vaccinate approximately 6.9 million children in eight districts of Punjab in a campaign starting from March 12.

Provincial Primary & Secondary Healthcare (P&SH) Minister Khwaja Imran Nazir said that Punjab Emergency Operations Centre will launch the polio eradication campaign in Lahore, DG Khan, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rawalpindi, RY Khan and Sheikhupura before the polio high-risk season begins in May.

P&SH Secretary Ali Jan Khan urged the parents to get their children vaccinated during the five-day campaign, he emphasised that especially people from other provinces should get their children vaccinated during the campaign.

Punjab’s Emergency Operation Coordinator Dr Munir Ahmed stated, “We are conducting campaigns with a resolve to eradicate polio from Pakistan in 2018”. He also stressed upon the parents to cooperate with the polio teams in their areas.

Globally, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria are the only three countries which still combating the polio virus.
