KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan on Saturday decided to freeze Malir’s former Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar’s bank accounts. Anwar allegedly killed Naqeebullah Mehsud in a fake encounter, who is an absconder ever since.
Reportedly, Anwar does not have a significant amount of money in either of his accounts, which were opened by him in government banks.
Naqeebullah Mehsud, 27, a native of Waziristan, was among three others who were accused by the police of being terrorists. He was killed on January 13 in what is widely said to be an extrajudicial killing.
Later, Supreme Court (SC) took a suo motu notice after protests erupted in the federal capital to arrest the culprits behind Naqeebullah’s killing.
The SC in a hearing on February 16 had directed the State Bank of Pakistan to seize Anwar’s bank accounts, besides issuing a contempt of court notice to him for failing to appear in court.
