ECP tells PML-N to elect chief in seven days

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to elect its president in seven days and hold intra-party elections in 45 days.

The ECP stated this on Wednesday in a letter written to the acting secretary general of the party, Ahsan Iqbal, after it removed Nawaz Sharif’s name from party leadership following the verdict that disqualified him from being the party chief.

According to the ECP, the name was removed in compliance with orders of the apex court. The electoral body said that Nawaz’s name shall be deemed to have been removed as party president from its election record from July 28, 2017.
