ATC extends remand of six police officers in Naqeebullah case

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court on Thursday extended the physical remand of six policemen till February 6 in Naqeebullah Mehsood murder case.

The police produced Sub-Inspector Yaseen, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Allahyar and Supurd, Head Constables Khizar Hayat and Iqbal and Arshad before the court in tight security.

These police officers were arrested on January 26 and were kept in police custody for questioning.

The investigating officer submitted that the suspects were required for interrogation, requesting the judge to extend their physical remand. Allowing the police to keep the suspects with them, the administrative judge extended their physical remand and sought progress report from the investigators.

The then Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar and several other cops have been absconders in the murder case of Naqeebullah who was gunned down in the ‘fake encounter’ on January 14, 2018.

The case was registered at Sachal police station under sections 302 (premeditated murder), 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 109 (punishment of abetment if the act abetted committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment) and 34 (common intention of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997).
