Laar Festival to begin in Badin on Oct 28

BADIN: The two-day Laar Festival, which is being organised by Sindh culture, tourism and antiquities department to promote the local culture and Laar life, is scheduled to begin at Badin Gym Khana from October 28.

The festival would be featured with its different segments and events to highlight the importance of the culture, along with entertainment like musical concerts, fold song dances, an exhibition of handicrafts and embroidery and the rich art of Laar.

The festival would be inaugurated by PPP senior leader and Senator Sassui Palejo and MPA Muhammad Ismail Rahu on its first day. The literary conference would be organised on the same day and will be chaired by Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) Chairman Dr Abdul Ghafoor Memon.

Prominent singers including Deba Sehar, Shafi Faqir, Allah Dino Junejo, Bejal Sindhi, Ahmed Mughal, Karim Kachhi, Mehboob Khaskheli, Shazia Tarnum, Badal Rahi and others will perform by singing songs and enthral the audience of the Laar Festival.

Different stalls would also be set up in the ground where different sorts of the traditional clothes, rillies (quilt) and others will be sold to the festival visitors. A mushaira will also be held in the festival at morning in which poets including Imdad Hussaini, Hafiz Nizamani, Maryam Majeedi, Niaz Hussain Pitafi, Ayaz Amir Shaikh, Amir Soomro and other local poets will perform,  and on the occasion the famous drama ‘The death of Dodo Soomro’ also will be presented.

The festival would be concluded by MNA Sardar Kamal Khan Chang, MPA Mir Allah Bux Talpur, Bashir Ahmed Halipoto, Taj Muhammad Mallah, Haji Sain Bux Jamali and others on its last day.

Talking to media, Laar Festival Chief Organizer Professor Abdullah Mallah expressed that “this festival would help to highlight the importance of our culture.” He added, “All measures have been taken to organise the festival in an organised manner.”

Logistic Coordinator Haji Ahmed Ghanchi said on the occasion that all logistic measures are finalised.
