Protesting teachers baton-charged, splashed with water cannon

Police Thursday resorted to baton-charge and used water cannons to disperse dozens of teachers protesting over non-payment of their salaries outside Bilawal House.

The police took action as the protesting teachers marched towards Bilawal House from Boat Basin after failure of talks between the government and teachers. Police have also arrested several teachers from the site.

The teachers, appointed in June 2012, by the then Sindh education minister Pir Mazharul Haq, have not been able to draw their salaries as their appointment and the procedure adopted in their hiring has been questioned by the Sindh Accountant General.
