KARACHI: Police arrested 30 teachers on Friday during their ongoing protest against the Sindh government demanding permanent employment status.
The teachers who had earlier been protesting outside the Karachi Press Club had decided to march on to the Sindh Assembly and were apprehended by police on their way there.
Police baton-charged the crowd and fired tear gas shells to disperse them; the teachers, in turn, pelted stones at the police.
Around 50 teachers including females were taken into custody by police while no case has been registered against them.
Last month, teachers of public colleges and universities took to the streets to protest against the provincial government for not promoting them and increasing their salaries.
Protesters had staged a sit-in protest outside the Karachi Press Club for three days before ending their protest.
