NEPRA blames KESC for power crises

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has rejected a request of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), seeking to raise the tariff citing fuel expenditures.

During the hearing today, KESC’s representative argued that the production cost rose in the month of October, and demanded an increase of 45 paisas per unit.

However, in his remarks, NEPRA Vice Chairman Khawaja Naeem said KESC was deliberately generating less electricity, acquiring low cost power from the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and selling at higher prices to its consumers, which was a blatant violation of the agreement. He further said that KESC was responsible for power crisis, and ordered to issue show cause notice to the company.
