Kayani might get extension: report

The service tenure of Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani is likely to get further extended for another term.

According to a report, Kayani is scheduled to step down from the post after six years in November but sources have disclosed that being a key figure in the dialogue with Afghanistan on the war on terror, the Karachi operation and the expected peace talks with Taliban, Kayani might be given an extension by the government.

According to the report, high officials are considering all options, including Kayani’s appointment as Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman or a one-year extension in his service, and a final decision would be taken on Prime Minister’s Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan.
