NHA establishes Flood Relief Cell

National Highway Authority (NHA) has established a Flood Emergency and Relief Cell to meet road emergencies in the ongoing rainy season.

According to an NHA official, the NHA will play an active role in rescue and relief operation in case of any floods. “All technical and administrative affairs have been finalised,” he said.

Contractors working with NHA have been assigned different duties. Flood situation in rivers will also be monitored through satellite and cooperation of the meteorological office will be obtained.

NHA Chairman Hamid Ali Khan has directed officials to deploy heavy machinery at every 40 to 50 kilometre distance for rapid response of the emergency cell. The NHA will also maintain liaison with all concerned departments regarding flood situation in Kabul, Ravi, Indus Rivers and at Tonsa Barrage so that maximum relief could be provided to flood victims.

To a question he said that all necessary machinery and equipment have been dispatched to areas vulnerable to floods and relief workers have been put on high alert.
