Non-teaching staff of federal schools and colleges staged a sit-in in front of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) on Wednesday to press the government to raise their salaries. Holding placards and banners, the protesters raised slogans against the FDE.

Chairman of the joint action committee of Non-teaching Staff Association, Sadaqat Abbasi said, “We are just demanding time-scale promotions, education allowance and other facilities. But the management is ignoring our demand.”

“Now we have decided that we will continue our protest until our demands are met. We know our strike will disturb the annual exams in schools, but we have no other option,” he added.

He said it had become a routine for government employees to not get any raise without taking to the streets.
