District administration has made it mandatory for all tobacco sellers to get a license from the assistant commissioner by 30th January, 2013.
Action can be taken against anyone selling tobacco products without a license following the deadline. In addition, cigarettes cannot be sold at hospitals, colleges, airports, railway stations and bus stands. The authorities have also banned tobacco sales to those under the age of 18, threatening action against non-compliers.
