The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday suspended appointment of Qamar-uz-Zaman Choudhry as Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
According to a private TV channel, a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Choudhry, which is hearing a petition in this regard, suspended prime minister’s directives on appointment of Qamar-uz-Zaman appointment as ED HEC.
The bench noted that prima facie the prime minister has no authority to appoint executive director of the HEC. It ordered that a fresh appointment on the basis of merit be made on this post.
