Pakistan s Ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani has said that the country wants to maintain cordial relations with the US, adding that US senators should not be intimidating Pakistan.

During an interview with a US TV channel, Haqqani said the US’ abandoning of Pakistan after the first Afghan war was a mistake. He said neither the US disarmed the militants after the war nor trained Pakistani security personnel.

Haqqani said Pakistanis had resentment against the US due to a lack of communication with the masses, adding that Pakistan had realised that it would have to normalise ties with the US. The ambassador said Pakistan did not want an aid-oriented relation with the US. He said that Musharraf did nothing to build a positive US image in front of Pakistanis.
