Kamal pushes early opening of 200-bed emergency block at Pims

ISLAMABAD: Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal on Monday directed Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) to make its new 200-bed emergency centre operational as soon as possible, calling the facility urgently needed in view of the hospital’s growing patient load.

During a visit to the hospital, Kamal was briefed by the administration on progress on the project, available medical facilities and the remaining stages of completion. Officials told him the state-of-the-art emergency centre was in its final phase before becoming functional.

The minister instructed authorities to complete cleaning, finishing and technical work to the highest quality standards and asked them to speed up the remaining process so the facility could be opened for public use at the earliest.

He also directed the relevant authorities to accelerate completion of the project’s PC-4 documentation to prevent delays.

New units planned in emergency facility

Hospital officials informed the minister that the new centre will include a 30-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit, a 10-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit, two operation theatres and two minor operation theatres.

Kamal said the government was taking practical steps to ensure timely and high-quality emergency healthcare services for the public. He added that the new emergency centre at Pims would be an important step in strengthening the public healthcare system and improving emergency medical services in Pakistan.
