Hyderabad to begin polio booster campaign next month

HYDERABAD: Children aged four months to 10 years in Hyderabad will receive polio booster doses from the third week of August 2026 under a district-wide vaccination campaign that will also include oral polio vaccine drops.

The preparations were reviewed on Monday at a meeting of the District Polio Eradication Committee chaired by Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon. He told officials the drive was an important part of efforts against polio and directed all relevant departments to complete arrangements in advance to ensure its full success.

EOC Sindh representative Abida Umar informed the meeting that the booster dose, including f-IPV and bOPV, would be administered through a jet injector, which she described as a safe and painless vaccination method. She said the campaign would be carried out at schools, healthcare facilities and community vaccination centres.

Alongside the booster dose, children will also be given OPV drops during the campaign across the district.
