Punjab launches shrimp farming internship with Rs100,000 monthly stipend

LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced a paid internship programme in shrimp farming, offering graduates a monthly stipend of Rs100,000 as part of efforts to promote aquaculture and create employment opportunities.

The initiative, launched under the Fisheries Department, is open to graduates with degrees in fisheries, zoology, marine sciences, biological sciences or related disciplines. Selected interns will receive practical training in shrimp farming alongside a monthly stipend for the duration of the programme.

According to the department, the internship aims to develop a skilled workforce for Pakistan's emerging aquaculture sector while encouraging young graduates to pursue careers in commercial shrimp farming.

Participants will receive hands-on training in hatchery management, pond operations, shrimp health, water quality management, feeding techniques and modern aquaculture practices under the supervision of industry experts.

The programme forms part of the Punjab government's broader strategy to expand shrimp production, boost exports and diversify the province's agriculture sector through high-value aquaculture.

Interested candidates have been invited to submit their applications to the Fisheries Department within the prescribed deadline. Further details regarding eligibility criteria, the application process and required documents are available through the department.
