The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has advised motorists to exercise caution while travelling as heavy monsoon rains continue to affect several parts of the country.
The advisory urges drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting out and to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall or poor visibility.
Motorists have been advised to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and keep headlights switched on while driving in rainy conditions. The NHMP also warned against sudden braking or sharp lane changes, which could increase the risk of accidents on wet roads.
Drivers have been asked to avoid flooded roads and underpasses, as water levels can rise rapidly and make vehicles unstable or cause them to stall.
The motorway police also encouraged travellers to stay updated on weather forecasts and road conditions before beginning their journey and to follow instructions issued by traffic officials on the ground.
Passengers have been reminded to wear seatbelts at all times, while motorcyclists have been advised to use protective helmets and rain gear when travelling.
The NHMP said emergency assistance remains available through its helpline, 130, and urged the public to report any road emergencies or accidents immediately.
