ISLAMABAD: Fifteen people, including 14 security personnel, were martyred in a terrorist attack on a joint police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district, according to the military’s media wing.

In a statement issued on Friday, Inter-Services Public Relations said the attackers tried to break through the checkpost’s security but were stopped by security forces. It said the assailants used an explosive-laden vehicle to hit the perimeter wall of the post.

ISPR said the blast caused severe damage to the checkpost’s infrastructure. It added that those martyred included 12 military personnel, two policemen and one government official from the forest department.

The military’s media wing said the attackers’ attempt was foiled by the response of personnel at the site. It did not provide further operational details, and said more information would follow.
