Canada’s foreign minister praises Pakistan’s peace role in meeting with Field Marshal Munir

ISLAMABAD: Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand praised Pakistan’s continuing efforts for global peace and stability and acknowledged the country’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism during a meeting with Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations.

The military’s media wing said the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security, and bilateral relations between Pakistan and Canada during the meeting.

According to the ISPR statement, Field Marshal Munir presented Pakistan’s perspective on global peace and regional stability and stressed the need for cooperation and joint efforts to tackle shared security challenges. The statement said the visiting Canadian minister appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting peace and stability alongside its counterterrorism efforts.

The ISPR said Field Marshal Munir and Anand also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and broadening engagement in the areas of defence and security.

First visit as foreign minister

Anand arrived in Pakistan earlier in the day on an official visit at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. It was her first visit to Pakistan since assuming office.

After talks with Dar, Anand addressed a joint press conference with Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and announced assistance of more than $47 million for security and development initiatives in Pakistan.

The meeting at GHQ formed part of Anand’s engagements during her official trip, which focused on bilateral relations as well as regional and security matters, according to the military statement.
