500 e-buses, double-deckers slated for rollout soon

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said 500 electric buses and double-decker buses will soon begin operating in Karachi as the provincial government moves to expand the city’s public transport network.
In a statement, Memon said Karachi’s development, along with the delivery of basic services to residents, remained among the Sindh government’s main priorities. He said the city required modern, safe and respectable public transport, adding that the government was fully aware of that need.
Memon also said more than Rs100 billion had been earmarked for Karachi in the 2026-27 budget. According to the minister, the allocation will be used for water supply, drainage, road construction and rehabilitation, as well as other public infrastructure and civic facilities.
He further said the creation of new job opportunities formed an important part of the Sindh government’s economic strategy. The minister described the planned transport rollout and wider city spending as part of broader efforts to address Karachi’s needs.
