NAROWAL: A newly married woman was allegedly killed by her husband, who then set her body on fire in Narowal district, police said after registering a case on the complaint of the victim’s brother.
According to the FIR lodged by Ali Raza, his sister Nida Shaheen had married Hammad Sohail, a resident of Ghaziwal, three months ago. He alleged that after the marriage, Hammad began subjecting her to daily abuse because he wanted to marry again.
The complaint said Nida was allegedly assaulted by her husband and his family members on June 19 and forced out of the house, after which she went to stay with her parents. On June 27, Hammad allegedly went to his in-laws’ home, reconciled with her and took her back. The FIR states that another dispute later broke out at the house and that Hammad, along with his brother, mother and father, again tortured her before Hammad allegedly strangled her and burned the body.
Police said they reached the scene after receiving information about the incident. Saddar Narowal police registered an FIR against Hammad Sohail, his brother Bilal, father Sohail and mother Naseem. The body was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Narowal for post-mortem examination and further legal proceedings.
