KARACHI: A Karachi businessman killed in firing in Balochistan's Dasht area was laid to rest on Sunday as relatives, friends and members of the trading community gathered for his funeral and burial.
The funeral prayer for Ali Murtaza Jameel was offered after Zuhr prayers at Rehmani Mosque on Tariq Road. A large number of mourners attended, including family members, acquaintances and fellow traders. He was later buried at the Tariq Road graveyard.
Trade representatives condemned the killing and urged the authorities to act against those responsible. Rizwan Irfan, president of the Karachi Electronic Dealers Association, described the incident as a tragic act of terrorism while speaking to media representatives. He said Jameel had travelled to Quetta with his family for the first time when their vehicle came under fire. According to Irfan, Jameel was hit in the chest and died, while his wife suffered five bullet wounds and was being treated at a private hospital. He also said the couple's young daughters survived the attack.
"The terrorists showed no mercy - what were they doing to a family?" Irfan said, expressing anger over the assault on the family.
