Govt school in Hyderabad among top 10 for world's best school prize

KARACHI: A government school in Hyderabad has been named among the world’s top 10 finalists in the community collaboration category of the World’s Best School Prizes 2026, according to a statement cited by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah on Saturday.

The school, Govt Girls Lower Secondary School Tando Mir Ghulam Hussain, was shortlisted by T4 Education, an international organisation that recognises outstanding schools around the world. The statement said the World’s Best School Prizes are considered among the leading international awards in education.

According to the statement, the awards are given in five categories: community collaboration, environmental action, innovation, overcoming adversity and supporting healthy lives. It added that thousands of public and private schools from across the world applied this year, and after an extensive evaluation process, an international panel of experts selected only 10 finalist schools worldwide in each category.

The statement said only two schools from Pakistan were shortlisted for the global award: a private school from Punjab and the Government Girls Lower Secondary School Tando Mir Ghulam Hussain in Hyderabad. It added that the Sindh school earned its place among the top 10 finalists in the community collaboration category through partnerships with the local community, awareness drives, innovative STEAM-based learning activities and its focus on the holistic development of students.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah congratulated the school’s administration, principal, teachers, students, parents and the local community on the achievement, the statement said.

According to the statement, they said the recognition was not only the success of one school but also a matter of pride for Sindh’s education system, public schools and the country.
