ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court Aminuddin Khan represented Pakistan at the 14th St Petersburg International Legal Forum in Russia, according to a handout issued by the FCC.

The forum was described by the court as a major international platform focused on legal cooperation, judicial dialogue and the rule of law. The FCC said Chief Justice Aminuddin took part in high-level discussions with senior jurists, government representatives and legal experts from different countries on issues including constitutionalism, judicial independence, international legal cooperation and the changing role of courts in reinforcing democratic institutions.

Bilateral meetings on sidelines of forum

On the sidelines of the event in St Petersburg, the chief justice also held separate meetings with several international figures. According to the handout, these included Turkiye’s Justice Minister Akn Gurlek, Justice Rustam Pirakhmadovich Mirzozoda, who serves as chief justice and chairman of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan, and Senator Vladimir Chizhov, head of the Russia-Pakistan Friendship Group in the Federation Council of Russia.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi was also present during the meetings, the FCC said.

Focus on legal cooperation

The discussions centered on expanding judicial cooperation and improving institutional collaboration between Pakistan and partner countries. The handout said the meetings also covered the exchange of legal expertise and explored opportunities for deeper engagement in constitutional law, judicial administration and legal education.

The FCC said the chief justice’s participation formed part of Pakistan’s engagement in international legal dialogue through the St Petersburg forum, which brings together stakeholders working on contemporary legal and judicial issues.
