KARACHI: K-Electric said on Tuesday that selected areas across its service network will be exempted from load shedding during Ashura to support religious activities and public convenience.
In a press release, the utility said 371 feeders across Karachi have been designated as high priority in locations where Ashura processions, majalis and related gatherings are scheduled to take place. According to the company, the identified areas have been mapped on the basis of procession routes and congregation points during the Ashura period.
KE said the list includes 244 medium- and high-loss feeders that would ordinarily remain subject to scheduled load shedding, but these will now stay exempt from the evening of 8th Muharram until the morning of 11th Muharram.
The utility said it had carried out extensive coordination with the relevant stakeholders and authorities to help maintain uninterrupted supply in the identified priority areas during the observance.
In the statement, KE also said its staff would remain prepared to deal with any disruptions or emergencies during the period.
“KE's operational teams will remain on alert, with additional technical resources deployed to respond promptly to any network faults or emergencies”, it stated.
As part of additional customer facilitation for the Ashura holidays, the company has also revised bill payment deadlines falling during the holiday period. KE said bills carrying due dates of 25th and 26th June 2026 may now be paid by 29th June 2026 without any late payment surcharge.
It added that all scheduled banks and authorised payment collection centres have been informed to accept payments under the revised timeline. The utility said customers seeking further support on bill payments may contact its 24/7 helpline, 118, or use KE’s digital platforms for assistance.
KE also urged citizens to remain careful around electricity infrastructure during Ashura, particularly overhead power lines, and to keep a safe distance from electrical installations to help ensure a safe observance.
