KARACHI: Public transport in Karachi is set to remain off the roads on Friday after negotiations between the Karachi Transport Alliance and representatives of the Sindh government ended without an agreement.
The alliance had already observed a citywide wheel-jam strike on Thursday, sharply disrupting travel across the metropolis. Buses, minibuses and coaches were largely missing from roads as operators kept their vehicles parked at terminals and depots, creating difficulties for thousands of people trying to reach offices, factories and other workplaces.
Around 8,000 buses, minibuses and coaches normally operate in Karachi, and the suspension of services has had a wide impact on daily commuters who depend on public transport.
Karachi Transport Alliance President Haji Tawab Khan told the media that discussions with the provincial government did not produce a breakthrough.
