Forensic reports delay Chakwal shooting investigation

CHAKWAL: The investigation into the killing of nine-year-old Pakistani-origin Australian girl Hania Ahmed in a Crime Control Department firing incident has been slowed by pending forensic and post-mortem reports, according to police investigators linked to the case.

Six days after the incident, the investigating team had still not received the child’s post-mortem report. The forensic examination report on more than 100 bullet casings collected from the scene had also yet to be submitted, delaying progress in the case.

The missing reports have held up preparation of the challan against accused CCD constable Shuja and are affecting the legal process. Hania’s father, Adeel Ahmed, and her brother, who were also injured in the incident, remained under treatment for the fifth straight day at Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi. Hospital sources said both were in stable condition and improving, though they were still under medical supervision.

Officials from the Australian High Commission in Islamabad have remained in contact with the injured family members and are closely following developments. At the family’s home, mourners continued to arrive from different parts of the country to offer condolences and express solidarity.
