Senior journalist Danish Zuberi dies after complications following heart surgery

Karachi: Senior journalist Danish Zuberi has died after complications following open-heart surgery, according to a tribute published by the newspaper, which described his passing as a major loss for colleagues and the newsroom where he worked for years.

Zuberi was known among co-workers for his warmth, humour and calm manner, and was remembered not only as a senior newsroom figure but also as a mentor to younger journalists. He was regarded by many juniors as a supportive supervisor who guided staff patiently and did not turn mistakes into a source of embarrassment.

According to the publication, one phrase frequently associated with him in the newsroom was "No issues, akhbaar roz chapta hai".

The article said these words came to reflect his approach to leadership and his way of reassuring younger colleagues when errors occurred.

Journalism career

Zuberi began his career as a business reporter and worked with Daily Finance, Financial Post, Newspaper Daily and The News Daily. He later joined The Express Tribune as a sub-editor and, over time, rose to become City Desk Head. His editorial judgment and commitment to journalism earned him respect within the profession.

The tribute described journalism as more than a job for Zuberi, saying he pursued it with dedication while also encouraging others in the newsroom. He celebrated the achievements of colleagues and was seen by many as a protective and guiding presence.

Colleagues pay tribute

Paying tribute, colleague Afshan Sadaqat said Zuberi was the best supervisor she had worked with and remembered him as a deeply supportive figure.

“Danish Sahib was, without doubt, the finest supervisor I have had the privilege of working with in my entire career. As a person, he was far more than a boss - he carried the warmth and guidance of a fatherly figure, always cooperative, consistently supportive, and remarkably accommodating”, the colleague stated.

Another colleague, Nusrat Jamali, said Zuberi came from a highly educated family, with several members involved in education as professors, lecturers and teachers. Jamali also described him as a committed journalist who handled responsibility with professionalism.

"Danish Zuberi came from a highly educated family, many of whose members have devoted their lives to education as professors, lecturers and teachers. He was a true journalist who consistently demonstrated his talent and professionalism whenever entrusted with responsibility,"

“Throughout the years, I never saw him waste time on unnecessary matters or engage in arguments, even when he knew the other person was in the wrong. Instead, he remained calm, composed and respectful - a reflection of his character and values”, he added.

The tribute added that colleague Rana Saif remembered Zuberi for the sense of family he fostered around him in the newsroom.
