Karachi police order inquiry after female officer’s viral allegations

KARACHI: Senior police authorities in Karachi have ordered an inquiry after a video circulating on social media showed a female police officer making allegations related to an ongoing investigation at Eidgah police station.

According to the details reported, the complaints concern the investigation of FIR No. 91/26 registered at Eidgah police station, along with allegations raised in the viral video by female police officer Rubina Shaheen of Napier police station. In the video, she alleged misconduct and appealed to senior police officials for protection and support.

She also claimed that a suspect who is currently on judicial remand was being given special protocol and facilities at the police station.

Inquiry ordered by senior officials

After taking notice of the video, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Azad Khan directed the deputy inspector general (DIG) South to hold a fact-based inquiry and submit a detailed report on the matter.

The DIG South has also sought a comprehensive inquiry report from the SSP Investigation regarding the complaints and allegations connected to the FIR investigation. The DIG instructed investigators to review all aspects of the case, including the investigation process, the role of the officers concerned, and the claims being circulated on social media, before filing a detailed report.

Case background

Police sources said the case involves a non-Muslim boy and girl who allegedly eloped and got married. Further action will be taken in line with the law and departmental regulations after the inquiry report is submitted and reviewed.

The development came after the allegations surfaced publicly through the viral video, prompting intervention from senior police officials and the initiation of an internal review into the handling of the case.
