A caver trapped about 120 metres underground in north-west Italy was rescued after an overnight operation involving 53 people. Emergency services said he was treated inside the cave before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

MILAN: A caver whose leg was pinned under a boulder about 120 metres underground was rescued from a cave in north-west Italy, emergency services said on Monday.
The overnight operation was carried out at Grotta dei Cinghiali Volanti, or Cave of the Flying Wild Boars, in the province of Cuneo, around 120 kilometres south of Turin. According to the Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service, 53 people took part in the effort, with rescuers coming from different parts of Italy.
The rescue service said the man was first treated at a temporary medical post established inside the cave. He was later brought out and taken to hospital by ambulance.
The service said medical staff determined that he was in a condition that did not require evacuation by stretcher. The rescued caver was identified as an Italian national, while media reports said he was 20 years old.
