Police register case against four men over attempted sexual assault of minor

LAHORE: Police in the Wandhar area of Pattoki tehsil have registered a case against four named suspects after an alleged attempt to sexually assault a minor, according to the first information report filed on the complaint of the child’s family.

According to the FIR, the incident took place on Sunday when the child went to bathe at a tube well in the fields. The report alleges that four men who were already present there seized the child and took him into a nearby sugarcane field, where they allegedly tried to assault him.

The family told police that the child cried out after sensing danger, which drew the attention of people nearby. The suspects then fled when they saw others approaching, the FIR states. Following the incident, the family contacted police, who registered the case against Ali Raza, Faraz, Rizwan and Shehzad.

Police officials said an investigation had been launched and all aspects of the case were being examined. They said evidence was being gathered and special teams had been formed to arrest the suspects. Officials added that the inquiry would proceed on merit and legal action would be taken in light of the facts established during the investigation.

The incident has caused concern among residents of the area, who said cases involving children were becoming an increasing source of anxiety for families. Residents said isolated spots in rural areas, including fields and tube wells, were especially vulnerable because of weak surveillance and monitoring.

According to local residents, several cases involving sexual offences, including against children, have been reported in and around Sarai Mughal in recent months. They said this had left parents increasingly worried about the safety of their children.

Community figures in the area called on law enforcement authorities to adopt stronger preventive measures, including increased patrolling and surveillance at sensitive locations. Residents also urged awareness efforts in schools and at community level so children could better identify dangerous situations and immediately inform parents or the relevant authorities.

More than 10 cases of sexual offences, including cases involving children, have been reported within the limits of Sarai Mughal police station, residents said. Police officials said the investigation was continuing and that further details were expected to emerge after the arrest of the suspects.
