Pochettino says Senegal win can rebuild trust before World Cup
Mauricio Pochettino said the United States’ 3-2 win over Senegal could help restore supporters’ faith before next year’s World Cup. He also praised Christian Pulisic’s display and said the team must show the same commitment against Germany.

ISLAMABAD: United States coach Mauricio Pochettino said his side’s 3-2 friendly victory over Senegal could help restore confidence among supporters as the team builds towards a World Cup it will co-host with Canada and Mexico.
The tournament is due to begin on June 11, with expectations that players such as Christian Pulisic can help the Americans make a strong run. The United States will face Paraguay, Australia and Turkey in Group D, and failure to advance beyond that stage would be seen as a major setback for the men’s national team.
The result against Senegal came after friendly defeats to Belgium and Portugal had dampened public optimism, while the team’s long-running struggles against leading sides had also fed concerns. Sunday’s victory was Pochettino’s second as US coach against top-15 opposition, following a win over Uruguay in November.
Speaking after the match, Pochettino said the outcome mattered not only inside the squad but also beyond it.
