Obama-era White House Instagram account hacked and later secured
An Instagram account tied to Barack Obama’s White House records was hacked before being secured, according to TMZ. Meta confirmed the breach and said the unauthorised posts were removed.

WASHINGTON: An Instagram account linked to former US president Barack Obama’s White House records was hacked, according to a report published Monday by entertainment outlet TMZ.
The breach was detected on Sunday after a series of unusual posts appeared on the account, which uses the handle @obamawhitehouse. TMZ reported that the most notable post showed an AI-generated image and carried a caption translated as: The White House is under Shia control.
TMZ also reported that the person behind the breach uploaded new Instagram stories to the account, which has 2.4 million followers. A Meta representative confirmed to TMZ that the account had been compromised and said it has since been secured, with the unauthorised material removed.
According to TMZ, the last authentic post on the account was published on January 20, 2017, when President Donald Trump was inaugurated. No information has been made public about who carried out the hack. Obama operates a separate personal Instagram account under the handle @barackobama, which has 42.2 million followers.
