Authorities tighten enforcement of Hub Canal swimming ban
Karachi authorities have stepped up enforcement of the ban on bathing in Hub Canal, arresting more than 35 people. Officials said cases were registered and warned that action would continue against violators.

KARACHI: The city administration has intensified enforcement of a ban on bathing in the Hub Canal, and more than 35 people have been arrested for violating the restriction, officials said on Sunday.
According to a handout issued by the Karachi commissioner’s office, Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi directed district administrations and police to ensure strict monitoring and implementation of the ban.
A report submitted by the deputy commissioner said Manghopir police had launched a crackdown against violators and arrested over 35 people. Cases were registered against the suspects under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Officials warned the public against visiting the canal area for bathing, swimming or gathering in groups, saying legal action would be taken without leniency against violators. The administration also advised parents to closely monitor their children and stop them from going near the canal to avoid any untoward incidents as well as legal consequences. Police said multiple FIRs had been registered over the violations and that enforcement would continue in the interest of public safety.
