Attendant burnt alive, four injured as ambulance catches fire in Toba Tek Singh
A woman died and four people were critically injured after an ambulance caught fire on Toba-Khikha Road in Toba Tek Singh, according to Rescue 1122 and police. In a separate fire in Mian Channu, four buffaloes were killed and four other animals were injured.
TOBA TEK SINGH: A 45-year-old woman died and four others suffered serious burns when an ambulance caught fire near Chak 347/GB on Toba-Khikha Road on Sunday, according to Rescue 1122 and police.
Officials said the ambulance of the Rural Health Centre Sindhillianwali was returning to the centre after taking a 75-year-old patient, Sallan Bibi, for examination at the District Headquarters Hospital Toba. She was travelling with her daughter Sabiha Bibi, son Sarfraz Ahmed and another daughter, Bakht Bibi. The family belonged to Chak Kot Karamshah in tehsil Pirmahal.
According to Rescue 1122 and police, the fire broke out because of an electrical short circuit. They said those inside the vehicle could not get out in time, while people at the scene tried to put out the blaze after a hectic struggle. Sabiha Bibi was burnt alive in the fire, while Sallan Bibi, Sarfraz Ahmed, Bakht Bibi and ambulance driver Asad Ramzan, 35, received critical burns and were shifted to Toba DHQ Hospital.
In a separate incident, four buffaloes were burnt alive and four other animals suffered serious burns after a fire erupted in a garbage heap and spread to a nearby cattle pen at Chak 11/8-R in tehsil Mian Channu. Firefighters later brought the blaze under control. Cattle owner Sikandar estimated his losses at more than Rs5 million.
