Three killed, 189 injured in 167 road accidents in Rawalpindi during Eid
Rescue 1122 said 167 road accidents in Rawalpindi during the three days of Eidul Azha left three people dead and 189 injured. The service also reported 46 fire incidents and said traffic in Murree remained smooth despite heavy inflows.

RAWALPINDI: At least three people were killed and 189 others were injured in 167 road traffic accidents reported in Rawalpindi district during the three days of Eidul Azha, according to Rescue 1122.
A spokesperson for the emergency service said 84 of the injured were in critical condition, while 102 sustained minor injuries. He said rescue teams provided timely assistance to all those affected.
According to the spokesperson, most of the accidents involved cars and motorcycles. The victims included 157 men and 32 women, with a large number falling in the 11 to 40 age group. The reported causes included overspeeding, negligent driving and tyre bursts, among other factors.
Fire incidents during Eid
Rescue 1122 said it also responded to 46 fire incidents across the district during the three Eid holidays, though no injuries were reported in those cases. The spokesperson said rescue teams reached the sites promptly and carried out the necessary operations.
Firefighters managed to contain the blazes, helping avert estimated losses of around Rs19 million, the service said. In addition, Rescue 1122 received reports of 10 forest fires in the district.
The spokesperson said the causes of the fires included short circuits and human negligence, among other reasons. He added that Rescue 1122 had also been working to bring down the number of fire incidents through enforcement of fire safety regulations, training and other programmes.
Traffic remains smooth in Murree
Meanwhile, more than 75,000 vehicles entered Murree from the first day of Eidul Azha, but traffic continued to move smoothly in the hill station on Saturday.
The chief traffic officer in Murree said over 200 traffic police personnel had been deployed to maintain the flow of vehicles in the resort town.
