Meta plans AI pendant testing as it expands wearable device push
Meta plans to test an AI pendant within a year and expand its smart glasses lineup, according to a report. The move comes as the company tries to improve performance in its loss-making hardware unit.

WASHINGTON: Meta Platforms plans to begin testing an artificial intelligence pendant within the next year as it maps out a broader strategy for wearable devices, according to a report by The Information cited by Reuters.
The Facebook and Instagram parent also intends to widen its range of AI glasses and introduce a business-oriented service called Wearables for Work. The details were attributed to an internal memo from Alex Himel, Meta’s vice president of wearables. Meta declined to comment to Reuters on the report.
The plans come as Meta seeks to address continued losses in its hardware business. Its Reality Labs division posted a first-quarter loss of $4.03 billion on revenue of $402 million.
Meta is targeting sales of 10 million wearable devices in the second half of 2026 by launching new products and making them available in additional countries. The company already works with EssilorLuxottica brands Ray-Ban and Oakley on AI-powered smart glasses. Last year, Meta bought AI wearables startup Limitless, which makes a pendant-style device that records and transcribes real-world conversations, as part of its effort to develop next-generation AI-enabled wearables.
