PTI says Junaid Akbar, other party leaders were arrested in Gilgit-Baltistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf said on Friday that its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president, MNA Junaid Akbar, and several other party leaders were arrested in Gilgit-Baltistan while returning from Ghizer district.

In a post on X, the party said Junaid Akbar was taken into custody along with MNAs Saleemur Rehman, Amjab Ali Khan and Syed Mehboob Shah, as well as MPA Naeem and Dr Nawaz. PTI alleged that the group was stopped by the Gilgit-Baltistan government and administration at a check post and later taken to Gilgit.

The party also shared a video on X which it said showed the arrest. In the footage, Akbar and others could be seen seated inside what appeared to be a van, while a man in police uniform was visible in the background.

Former National Assembly opposition leader Omar Ayub also reacted on X, condemning the reported action. He said, "Strongly condemn the arrest of PTI provincial president KPK Junaid Akbar Khan in Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan. This action proves that the Form 47 installed regime wants a bogus ‘selection’ instead of a free."
